CCTV aim: Make Christians Look Stupid

The last time the Christian Congress for Traditional Values made the pages of this website it was at the height of their homophobic ad campaign against the Sexual Orientation Regulations. Well, now those Christian chickens are coming home to roost, with the ASA ruling that one of their posters was in breach of the advertising code on two counts:
1) it wasn’t an accurate representation of the views of gay people, and
2) it was likely to cause widespread offence

In their defence, the CCTV said that gay people did indeed want to destroy the family, and cited as proof a document written in 1971 by the Gay Liberation Front – a radical fringe group which disbanded thirty years ago.

1971? These Christians do set a lot of store by ancient literature, don’t they? We wonder if the document was dated AD71 would they be even more frightened than they are now?

    Lets enjoy this one though… without going through the entire ruling lets look at the real gems:

    “On this point the ad breached CAP Code clauses 3.1 (Substantiation), 7.1 (Truthfulness) and 8.1 (Matters of opinion)

    On this point the ad breached CAP Code clauses 2.2 (Social responsibility), 5.1 and 5.2 (Decency) and 8.1 (Matters of opinion)

    So the ASA have just said that CCTV are “Socially irresponsible, indecent liars”

    So who the fuck are they to judge me?

    I called the ‘Bishop’ who runs this CCTV group so that I could correctly accredit him his title in my blog post. Not one person on his staff could tell me where or by whom he was ordained! They then became quite defensive and told me to use the title Doctor instead as he was awarded a doctorate from an American conservative christian college.

    Their representative completely misses the point in the Youtube video. Imagine the eruption from people like him if banners proclaiming ‘Christian Aim: Abolish XYZ’ were paraded, using the words of a little band of radicals from three-and-a-half decades ago as the justification.

    Another pathetic fringe-group looking to boost their profile by making homos out to be mad home-wreckers.
