Tobago Church fears Elton will turn locals gay
Leaders of the Church in Tobago are campaigning to ban Elton John from the island. The big-spectacled songster is due to headline at the island’s Plymouth Jazz Festival in April, but the Archdeacon of Trinidad and Tobago has said:
His visit to the island can open the country to be tempted towards pursuing his lifestyle. The artist is one of god’s children and while his lifestyle is questionable he needs to be ministered unto.
There are no official figures indicating what proportion of the audience is turned gay at Elton John concerts, but unofficial estimates range from 5% to 25%.
I listened to one of his albums one day and came over all queer all of a sudden. Fortunately it passed, but I’m not doing that again. It might have been the Chinese take away though, now that I think about it.
They got it wrong… Elton makes me want to be hetro!
So they come over a bit homosexual when listening to music made by a gay man? I’m sure there’s a priest joke to go here somewhere.
Does anyone, of any orientation, ever go to an Elton John concert, look at the man on stage and think “Cor, I wouldn’t mind a bit of that”?
I quite like old reg, he makes me laugh with some of the stuff he does and comes out with. As for going to one of his concerts, I just wouldn’t be prepared to pay the ticket price.
Darn, you mean he was singing Crocodile Cock all those years ago? .
No really, I was a fan as a kid and I turned out all-left.
“Turned Gay”?
What planet are these idiots on?
Do they really believe this crap, in which case they are mad, or are they just lying?
In a word: homophobic.
Martyn, if we’re in a sort of Elton John confessional mood, I have to say – I fucking LOVE Benny and the Jets. I think it’s a classic. You don’t get bloody Razorlight writing stuff as good as that, do you?
2 hours ago I listen to ‘Captain Fantstic'(last good thing he did) and have now left my wife and children to become a preditory homosexual. Twats.
Tobago – Caribbean – music festival – Cricket world cup. Sounds pretty much like paradise to me, I’ll take my chances. And incidentally, why do they never play “Tiny Dancer” on the radio? The best of the best.

I turned straight when I listened to Elvis Presley, and turned straight even more when I listened to the Beatles. Every time I hear a song by a heterosexual singer, I turn straighter. It’s an odd experience. I hear someone humming ‘The Old Rugged Cross’ and suddenly I turn superstitious. I see a tin of Chum and begin to bark …

Excellent quote from one of the organisers: “He is not coming here to preach about what lifestyle people should have.”
Unlike the church leaders…
