Beyer on ITV

John Beyer, chief smut-watcher at Mediawatch-UK, is still flushed with success at the recent international coverage his words have gained. Now he is giving advice to ITV on its plans for the 21st century.

Apparently, what the public wants is “good wholesome entertainment”. From The Sunday Express (no link):

If by 21st century drama they are talking about offensive bad language and violence, and if they think that will attract viewers, then they are wrong. Violence, sexual conduct and bad language cause offence. If they steer clear of those three elements, they will succeed.

Why isn’t this man Director General?

If viewers don’t want to see more sex, violence and swearing they will switch ITV off it it delivers such things. However lets be thankful they have the choice to do that themselves if they so wish and not have John Beyer and mediawatch-uk do it for them.
Beyer is for once advocating some sort of choice for viewers…sadly it’s the choice to only choose to watch what he wants them to.

I remember in the 1980s C4 used red triangles to “warn” of swearing, violence and sex, ratings shot up! People don’t want to watch that? get a life Beyer!

It’s because the twat lives in his own world. Has he ever been to the average workplace and heard the language? Red triangles all round me thinks.

  4. And then there’s the slim handful of shows that *have* brought ITV good ratings in recent years – Bad Girls, Footballers’ Wives and I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Fun for all the family!

    The introduction to mediawatch:-
“John Beyer, the Director, welcomes you to our
website which provides independent and principled opinion and research on harm and offence issues in the media”
    Independent, fuck off.
