Channel 4 Wank-a-thon
MWW waits in eager anticipation for John Beyer to toss off a few choice quotes about this one.
Such a pity the event is taking place in Clerkenwell, and not Jodrell Bank.
UPDATE: Well, we didn’t have to wait long. The Sage of Ashford is positively beside himself with rage, and is calling for government intervention. We just hope he hasn’t shot his bolt too soon:
We call on the Secretary of state for Culture, Media and Sport Tessa Jowell to intervene to make Channel 4 scrap this tasteless idea
C4 is a public service broadcaster though it is funded by adverts and I think it could be breaking its licence agreement with the Government.
Advertisers should withdraw their funding and force C4 to drop the programme.
I’m lost for words. It’s a terrible idea, C4 is capable of doing superb programmes but this isn’t one of them.
It’s bringing TV standards down once again.

Oh, but it’s not really necessary is it, because I think he knows enough about the subject matter already.
When I saw the headline “Channel Four to screen Wankathon” in the papers, I assumed Jimmy Carr had been given another panel show.
The important question here is the age of the participants. We must protect the under 18s.
Who has said that it is mandatory to watch ?????
What happened to the off button on the tv ????

As long as there is sufficient warning that adult
content is contained within the programm and that
it is aired at a suitable time, I do not see why
such a fuss is to be made !!!! There are atleast
3 terresrtial channels to be watched alternativly
to this programme,why watch it if you are offened
by the subject.

well if u dont want to watch it then urn ur daym tv off plain and simple and let the pepole who want to watch it watch it end of problem.
Should be shown, will still be governed by ofcom policy so you won’t see anything offensive anyway. It’ll just be interviews with a bunch of tossers trying to justify their reasons for doing such a wanky thing. Wankers the lot of ’em.
