Christian hecklers silence Stewart Lee
A short piece in The Scotsman today reports that JS: TO author Stewart Lee cut short a press conference at Aberdeen’s His Majesty’s Theatre because of heckling from invited members of Christian Voice. JS: TO is playing at the theatre for one week next March.
Christ, the little buggers are all over the place!
UPDATE: The Press and Journal has more. Including some choice quotes in which CV members put their intellectual cards on the table:
I have read part of this and it’s dreadful. It’s absolutely vile and is an insult.
This poor man who wrote this play is obviously hurt in some way and he hates Christians and Christ.
God help him when he meets his maker.
The script is filth and shouldn’t be shown in Aberdeen. It should be sent back to hell where it belongs.
(Thanks to Garry at BSSC)
That reminds me, I must get my 4 year old nephew a xmas present before I see him next week…….
Who invited these highly mature individuals to the press conference anyway? Since when has christian voice been a media outlet?
Let’s be clear – they were invited and then stopped their host speaking?
Interesting example of Christian family values there! When I was a sprog and got invited to join grown-ups for a while my parents always said I shouldn’t speak until invited and that it was rude to shout because it would show up my family.
So, no brains, no manners. If they really had a big skydaddy he would be blushing with shame.
Incidentally, this shows the real weakness of all of the blackmailing loonies.
THEY do all the threatening, boycotting, blackmail, etc – whether christian, muslim or whatever.
Whereas if their invisible friend of choice really existed, they wouldn’t need to, would they?
Re the update – a CV member who can read, don’t think that’s likely!
Still, if he did read it at least he’ll be easy to spot, presumably as his right eye has so obviously offended him he will now be obliged to pluck it out.
I’m sorry, but I’m not particularly surprised. It was in Aberdeen, after all, which is one of the most depressingly grey & dreich places in winter (and no, the granite does NOT “sparkle”, in case any loons or quines want to stake that spurious claim). There ARE many worse up here (Hamilton, Niddrie, Govan, etc, etc), but the debilitating mental anguish that Aberdeen can cause (ESPECIALLY on a Sunday) will inevitably lead to fundamentalist tendencies. Ho Hum.
Cheers from Sconny Botland
Yes it’s amazing, you can’t even insult someone’s beliefs these days without them getting offended.
I expect the last thing Stewart wants is more of this type of publicity…
If the beliefs of which you speak are strong enough they can rise above being offended, surely?
