Vatican plugs new vampire movie

newmoon
Monsignor Franco Perazzolo, of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council of Culture, has decided to give a new vampire movie a publicity boost by publicly condemning it.

Speaking about New Moon, the latest in the vampire saga Twighlight, the biscuit-munching moraliser said:

Men and women are transformed with horrible masks and it is once again that age-old trick or ideal formula of using extremes to make an impact at the box office.

This film is nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such should be of concern

Hmm – “a moral vacuum with a deviant message”? Sounds just like the Vatican.

    Very aptly put! Nice one…. : )

Do you think that this guy might have led a bit of a sheltered life? I mean, men and women being transformed with horrible masks, oh no! the moral vacuum, the deviant message, its all just too horrifying for a monsignor to bear. Whatever will the hideous effects on the world’s teenagers be?

On a more serious note, these people are experts at ignoring moral evils that actually exist and imagining moral evils where there are non.

A moral deviant with a vacuum, I don’t like the sound of that, maybe the Vatican is right after all?

I’ve looked all over for the origin of this story. It seems to start with the Daily Mail and have no higher provenance. I wonder if they just made it up.

  5. Stonyground says:

Desmond P, isn’t it a sad reflection on the state of our newspapers when you can suggest this and we all know that it might well be true.

‘a moral vacuum with a deviant message’?
Crikey, what will Dyson come up with next?

  7. Andrew Nixon says:

The irony of it all is that the entire series is pretty much a parable against pre-marital sex – something one would assume the Vatican would wholeheartedly support! Perhaps their problem is that it was written by a devout Mor(m)on.

  8. Stonyground says:

My daughter has now seen this film and informs me that the place where the vampire equivalent of the royal family reside seems to closely resemble the Vatican. Either Desmond P. is correct and the story is fabricated, or possibly Perazzolo is criticising the film without having actually seen it.
