Council of ex-Muslims of Britain

Rights activist Maryam Namazie is to be the voice of the soon-to-be formed Council of ex-Muslims of Britain:

We are establishing the alternative to the likes of the Muslim Council of Britain because we don’t think people should be pigeonholed as Muslims or deemed to be represented by regressive organisations like the MCB. Those of us who have come forward with our names and photographs represent countless others who are unable or unwilling to do so because of the threats faced by those considered ‘apostates’ – punishable by death in countries under Islamic law. By doing so, we are breaking the taboo that comes with renouncing Islam but also taking a stand for reason, universal rights and values, and secularism. We are quite certain we represent a majority in Europe and a vast secular and humanist protest movement in countries like Iran.

The launch will be on Thursday 21 June.

There are already councils of ex-Muslims in Germany, Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. MWW wishes this one good luck!

Thanks for the link, a brave effort by ex-muslims.
Please note that the launch is on 21st of June at 11am – not the 11th of June.. 😉

“Let there be no compulsion in religion. Truth stands out clear from error.
Whoever rejects evil and believes in God has grasped the most trustworthy
handhold that never breaks, and God hears and knows all things.” Qur’an 2:256

  5. Jan says:

Qur’an 2:256 no compulsion in religion means that you can not force a Jew or a Christian to become muslim if he accepts second class status. If he is not a Jew or Christian, he can freely choose between conversion or death. Apostates have to be killed according to the sahih hadith in which it is reported that the prophet said: “if someone changes his religion, kill him”.

All shariah handbooks explain this very clearly.

Quran 2:256 does NOT mean that you can leave Islam or take the islamic rules set by the Qur’an and the Sahih Hadith lightly. This is a complete misconception to fool non-muslim societies.

Salahudin, unfortunately every major school of Islamic jurisprudence stipulates the death penalty for apostasy. It is a good enough reason in itself to be an apostate. It is insecurity writ very large indeed.

  7. No compulsion? Hmmmmm . . . . plus a little after-life ‘advice’: sura 98, 6: those who reject truth (Islam) among the people of the book, and among the polytheists, will be in hellfire, to dwell therein for aye, they are the worst of creatures’. Good luck.

Isnt it sad that muslims who decide to leave islam risk persecution and even death? Maybe we should understand the ethos of the q’ran and religion overall. A murderous cult.
