God wins Eurovision 2006
Finland’s entry for this year’s Eurovision ran away with it. Lordi (The Lord) is a heavy metal band heavily influenced by Kiss. Their winning song was called “Hard Rock Hallelujah”.
The Church in Finland has been in a bit of a tizzy since the band were selected to represent the country. Father Mitro Repo of Helsinki described their name as “sacrilege”.
Lord have mercy on us Finnish people now,
the BBC quotes him as saying. And that’s before they won.
Could this be The End for the Finnish?
Best. Eurovision. EVER. And what made it so great was that everybody involved with the broadcast was clearly genuinely fucked off about it. Really, really badly. THE DAY OF ROCKENING IS UPON US.
I have a party each year, with a number of gay men I know (okay, I am a fag hag — diddums), and this year I had them headbanging and voting for Finland. It’s a good song, even within the genre, remeniscient of Iron Maiden at their funniest. And I’m a goth, not a headbanger.
I actually took the time to visit their website, and watch a couple of their videos…plus there’s a good interview with the main man at: http://www.eurovision.tv/english/2469.htm
They’re clearly a just a fun bunch of horror-movie obsessives who want to have a good laugh…oh, and bring on the Arockalypse, naturally. 🙂
Most amusing thing about all the nonsense about promoting Satanism is that Tomi (Mr. Lordi’s real name) is a churchgoing christian (!)
Just a shame that there appears to be a distinct lack of quality guitar solos…I like a good screaming guitar solo, me…
🙂
That picture looks more GWAR than Kiss to me.
I probably shouldn’t admit knowing about GWAR. Oops.
Wash your mouth out with soap, Mr Crantrell! 😉

Lordi are NOT satanists(yes, we ALL know that!)…but I love the irony-filled comment from Archbishop Christaopopopopodopolus
“Their win “shows that people are seeking something to prop themselves on and fill their empty souls,” said Archbishop Christodoulos of the Greek Orthodox Church in a sermon on Sunday.
Hmmm, you mean Lordi are actually the agents of God. Isn’t that where people turn when they need to fill their empty lives and haven’t the imagination to to it themselves?
it shows people are fucked off with “boy bands ,and “girl bands”.at least they had the balls to do there own stuff, not shite written by the mainstream, sheep
